How to Become a Member
We’re thrilled to welcome new members to both the Academy and Senior Orchestra.
JOIN THE ORCHESTRA TODAY!
To become a member, you must be receiving formal lessons in an orchestral instrument.
We have two orchestras, and placement is based on ability and age:
- The Academy Orchestra is primarily for primary school children (with at least 1 year of lessons).
- The Senior Orchestra is mainly for secondary school children (with a minimum of grade 3 exams or equivalent).
Placement decisions are made solely by the musical director.
- To inquire about joining, please contact the Orchestra at julianstownyouthorchestra@gmail.com

Instrument Rental
JYO offers affordable instrument loans. At present, the orchestra supplies violins, violas, cellos, double basses, piccolos, oboes, clarinets, bass clarinets, bassoons, French horns, trombones, and percussion instruments.
Renting an instrument from JYO costs €20 per year, with a €30 refundable deposit. However, members must also enroll in lessons for the chosen instrument. The Orchestra can suggest teachers for all instruments. To secure an instrument, please use the payment link provided below the form.
Tutors
Learning to play a musical instrument can be daunting for a child. They must concentrate on coordinating their fingers, tongue, breathing, posture, reading notes, and keeping count. It can be challenging for parents to find a suitable teacher for their child’s chosen instrument. Before joining the orchestra, aspiring musicians should be taking lessons with a music tutor.
However, there’s some good news! Julianstown Youth Orchestra can recommend various music schools and private instructors who can provide lessons to support their journey with the orchestra. We’re pleased to share this list with you; for more information, please email info@jyo.ie.
